I am amazed. Crying in the middle of a restaurant, and immediately on the last words as read by Armie Hammer, rewinding to hear the last few minutes all over again. Then I wrote a love poem to my husband. Great book! Great performance. I only got it because of the great reviews, and I've had such a hard time staying with it. I had to rewind the first 30 minutes over 10x. I'm gay myself but jesus this book is horrible! An absolutely beautiful, daring and complex novel!

Aciman's economy of style is at once direct and poetic. He handles a controversial subject with such sensitivity, frankness and unabashed romanticism that swoons at every turn. Armie Hammer's rich baritone, and elegant reading is superb. I will return to this again and again. This story is both beautiful and heartbreaking.

This love story about Elio and Oliver will touch your heart and then break it into a million pieces. This is one of those novels and stories that will stay with you for the rest of your life. I'm a gay man who saw, and enjoyed, the movie. But that's not going to happen! The book is very well written with creative, enjoyable prose that creates great images but the story is a cloyingly romantic fantasy containing mostly two-dimensional characters who mindfuck themselves silly, OMG get over yourselves?

The story just doesn't hold up, it's so melodramatic, in a silent movie kind of way and gets worse the farther you get to the end.

It doesn't help that the characters are not very likable in the book, and I can't even imagine such over the top romance between two men, and one that lasts a lifetime. Men are not by nature romantic, certainly not to the degree these two were. I was struck by the gratuitous hetero side story: our teenage romantic bedding local girls and the manfriend redeeming himself by promptly redeeming a marrying a siring a brood if kids, leaving all this behind, or not; I couldn't quite figure out was up when they met 20 years later; where they still in love, were they ever in love?

Who knows. I heard such good things about the movie, that I wanted to read the book for myself. When I started listening, I found that the main protagonist, Elio was miserable and unlikable. Compound that with the book being a definite "slow burn", it made it hard to finish. Throughout the story Elio was consistently passive aggressive, selfish, manipulative, jealous, and creepy.

He mopes around for the majority of the book and comes across as very pretentious. Which made his lengthy inner thoughts hard to tolerate. He was honestly the worst. The narration was very good, but unfortunately I did not enjoy the story at all. A beautifully haunting and bittersweet love story that makes you ache and wish you could experience a love like it. The narration by Armie is perfect. His smooth voice takes the story to a deeper level and makes you feel like it is playing out around you.

The movie should definitely be watched as well! Bold, honest, passionate, sensual and longing love and friendship story.

A true homage to those who could not and still cannot lives their live showing true love. I was fully enchanted by this text - Armie Hammer was convincing in his portrayal of Elio. Beautifully written - filled me with joy and heartbreak in equal measure. A disclaimer may be needed, I had no idea what the content would be and I wasn't expecting this!

The narration was very very good. I could listen to his voice all day long. The book has some incredible moments but it gets too caught up in side story particularly Elio's bisexuality and the polygamy of the relationship. Some of the background of the story like italian art is explored a little too deeply and it leaves you more confused than intrigued.

The ending is very real and personally not what im sure anyone reading wanted but thats not the books job, it has a heartwrenching ending that denies the reader everything and nothing at once. Worth the listen but at times can be very infuriating to hear.

This book really grabbed me and I couldn't put it down until I was finished. Amazingly written and beautifully read! Then you should listen to this book because it will feel like an eternity. Maybe if I had read this when I was a bit older and knew the keen sting of love, unrequited, forgotten, or simply lost by time, I would have loved this more. I did however, enjoy the reunion.

A beautiful account, raw and honest, of love. First love and heartbreak. I felt every pain point throughout. This story took me back to many periods in my life. It opened old wounds and made me think of lovers past. I adored it and will listen to it over and over. Beautiful story, beautiful book, and a beautiful voice.

Possibly the best audiobook I have ever listened to. This book is so intimate and evocative I took to only listening to it when I was alone. Armie Hammer reads it beautifully and the descriptions of young love, Italy and summer are simply stunning. This book will hopefully make you remember your first intense love and the breathtaking beauty of intellect and acceptance. A wonderful book for the open-minded.

LOVE it so much! Armie Hammer's sensational narration and his attractive fruity voice is definitely a plus.

The reading of it was transcendent. I cannot recommend it enough. The start of this book is interminable, repetitive and juvenile but not in the evocative way I hoped. Having read the book, watched the film and listened to the story multiple times - this is a book I'll be coming back to for years to come. Armie Hammer's narration is absolute perfection, wrapping you tightly in the most beautifully written and intimate love story I've ever experienced.

Whether I read this book, or listen to it being read, it doesn't diminish the beauty that this novel is. Armie Hammer's voice is so soothing, and really suits. Definitely worth purchasing with a credit, and is certainly the type of book to fall asleep to, and come back to time and time again. I absolutely loved this piece of art and to have it narrated by Armie Hammer?! Just amazing!
